Colour for Presentation Graphics

چکیده

Choosing a “good” set of colours for a graphical display is an important problem, but one which many data analysis practitioners are ill-equipped to solve. Most current graphics systems provide very little assistance in making good colour choices. Indeed, most systems require that a user specify their colours in ways which are closely related to the hardware representation of the colours rather than to the way we most naturally think about colour. This tends to encourage bad colour choices. In this paper we’ll examine some principles and software which enables us to make better colour choices. The ideas are close to those presented by Albert Munsell over 100 years ago, but they will be be developed in a more contemporary framework. Note: The figures in this paper are designed to be displayed on a device with a “gamma” value of 2.2. Displays with a different gamma values will not faithfully reproduce the figures contained in this paper.

Directional Stroke Width Transform to Separate Text and Graphics in City Maps

One of the complex documents in the real world is city maps. In these kinds of maps, text labels overlap by graphics with having a variety of fonts and styles in different orientations. Usually, text and graphic colour is not predefined due to various map publishers. In most city maps, text and graphic lines form a single connected component. Moreover, the common regions of text and graphic lin...

X-Movie: Transmission and Presentation of Digital Movies under X

We describe a system for storing, transmitting and presenting digital lms in a computer network. The hardware used in the system is standard hardware, as found in typical workstations today; no special hardware is required. The movies are shown in a window of the X Window System. This allows full integration with the classical components of computer applications such as text, color graphics, me...

A Hardware Architecture for Volume Visualisation Colour Imaging

This paper presents a hardware architecture for the real time generation of images from volume data. Colour imaging in this system is achieved though the use of a set of Look Up Tables (LUTs). The LUTs are capable of a variety of colour imaging techniques for visualising volume data. The use of colour imaging in generating images from medical volume data is discussed. Image synthesis from volum...

Sensors and algorithms for the construction of digital 3-D colour models of real objects

This paper describes sensors and algorithms developed and used for the creation of coloured 3-D triangular meshes from a set of range images with registered colour measurements. The objective is the creation of a digital model of a real object that is compatible with established computer graphics techniques. Triangular meshes are the fundamental rendering primitive supported by most high perfor...
